Mail Art

I think I started doing Mail Art with punk zines in the 80's. I like how Mail Art can be "very ephemeral". I also like how Mail Art has elements of surprise.

We had my favourite Stagg box hung up where the mirror should have been at the original Anchovy World Headquarters for years. It was the one with the quotes from the Symbolist poet Paul Valery and American painter Philip Guston. I love that box. It's most excellent.

Any mail today?
A box.
Chicago?
Yep.
What's he up to this time?
Looks like a video in here.
It says Soultrain. Think it's really Soultrain?
Who knows. Could be anything.
I wish he wouldn't use all these packing peanuts.
Yeah, they go everywhere.
He can't help it. He ships stuff.
He's circled something in that pile of newspapers.
What is it?
I don't know, some article about mob hits.
And something about a corrupt alderman.
He's shipped more cereal boxes.
Oh. With cassettes inside?
Yeah.
Look there's drawings.
And photocopies too.
Girls and guns?
Lots of them.
Excellent.

What a delightful visit this morning - this is a favorite post!!!! Mail art - yes, I've kept my box, bottles, the works and the box holds a place of honor to hold things in my study. It's part of the art in there. Love the photos on this post.
